What is this?
- This is a used rudder, covered in Ceconite/Poly-Fiber, removed from a 1946 Piper J3.
- The equivalent part number is: P/N: 40313-000.
What is the condition of this?
- This was removed from a flying aircraft just recently that had the rudder replaced with a new Univair rudder.
- This rudder is covered and has the registration number on it that the aircraft was removed from.
- The fabric is in good condition.
- This rudder has NO bellcrank at the bottom - you will need to transfer the bellcrank from your rudder to this one, upon installation.
- The rudder is NOT in compliance with AD#2025-02-11.
What about AD#2025-02-11?
- This rudder is NOT in compliance with AD#2025-02-11. As far as is known, this has the original mild steel rudder post.
- To comply with the AD, a rudder with a 4130 steel rudder post must be installed, OR some other alternate method of compliance (AMOC).
- An alternate method of compliance is attached in the pictures that allows a rudder to be modified by inserting a 4130 tube and bolting it in place to terminate the AD.
How much will the AMOC cost?
- The materials needed are: (1) 4ft 3/4" OD 4130 tube, with a .049" wall thickness, (2) AN3-13A bolts and self locking nuts.
- The 4ft 3/4" OD 4130 tube is aprx $90 from Aircraft Spruce (ACS P/N: 03-10200-5).
- The hardware is less than $10.

- This must ship freight due to dimensions.
- This has a wooden box it is secured in and the shipping cost will depend on your location.
- If you had bought a new (uncovered) rudder from Univair, you will incur a $125 crate fee on top of the $150-$250 freight shipping cost. We will not charge a crate fee.
