They may have cheap chrome plating/ flake. We have sold many of these handles over the years!
***In some cases, vintage door spline designs have small protruding "nipple" on end of door spline shaft.
In some rare cases, this small extension to the door spline shaft does not allow full seat of female and male spline parts resulting in misalignment for retention clip.
For a small number of handle replacement customers, removal of small nipple at end of shaft remedies this issue. Use of grinder or file may be helpful.
We are not aware of any other useful or more cost effective means of fixing this issue.
