This auction is for a POP rivet pneumatic installer manufactured between 1968 and 1976. It is a one-owner tool that was used by a deceased local dirt-track racer to install body panels on his personal race cars. It has been tested and is perfectly functional and needs nothing to be done to use on race cars, homebuilt aircraft or auto repair and/or modifications. If you have installed more than a few POP rivets using hand tools, you know that this pneumatic tool can save your hands and arms from fatigue, blisters and muscle pain.
The side-panel on the tool says it is a "PRG 510 Pneumatic 'POP' Riveter" and was manufactured by "U.S.M. Corp. Fastener Division, Shelton, Connecticut". USM invented both the POP rivet and this installation tool, as well as manual riveters. In 1976, USM was purchased by Emhart Industries, including the POP rivet line and the manual and pneumatic rivet tools. Emhart was purchased by Stanley Black & Decker in 2010, and the POP rivet and manual and pneumatic rivet tools are still produced.
The PRG 510 model has been superseded by the PRG 510A, with most of the parts remaining the same and are interchangeable between the two. Those part numbers that are unique to the PRG510 are still available from Stanley Black & Decker.
The PRG 510 is obviously a well-designed and manufactured riveter that has not been "value-engineered" by bean-counters in the various subsequent manufacturers after USM Corp.
Included in this auction is a current POP PRG 510A Instruction Manual including Operation, Care and Maintenance, Assembly and Disassembly, Trouble Shooting, Parts List and Diagrams, and Addendum pertaining to the differences between the PRG 510 and the PRG 510A.
