Unbelievable chance at a one of kind Ryan Navion this is one of 1200 built by Ryan aeronautical from 1948-1950.

This was owned by the same gentleman since 1977. He passed away unexpectedly. We have been working on finding the logbooks and we are in process of looking for them. There is a good chance they will turn up. Based on the information we have obtained thus far the plane was last flown in 2010 to the hangar where it’s parked currently I have not been able to prove that but it wasn’t trailered and it was somewhere else before this lease was opened in 2010.

We have all the records from the FAA on CD and goes all the way back to 1948 when plane was purchased new up to 1977.

This plane is in 9/10 condition both inside and out has been hangared its entire life paint is all original there is literally not a single ounce of rust or corrosion anywhere that I could find also there is no indication any preventive corrosion material has been applied to the plane indicating this plane has been well cared for from day one.

I am NOT A PLANE EXPERT.

We had the plane briefly looked at by an A&P IA his professional opinion was this plane was in phenomenal shape and would make a great candidate for restoration.

This plane will require work to get airborne and would likely be best for an aficionado or plane mechanic looking for an amazing collectible aircraft. The mechanic said that the airframe and gauges all look to be completely stock and original including the radio.

The nose cone for the propeller was removed but is with plane. The back seat where your back goes is apparently removed and missing.

Rudder and ailerons all move freely without issues. Gas tank cap was removed to view tank it appears to be bone dry. The only rust is on the collar of the cap and there are pieces of it down in the tank they are able to easily be vacuumed out before fuel is re introduced to the system.

The plane has new tires on it they still have the nipples on them and appear to be tube type tires. The plane had the engine swapped out it’s currently has a continental E-225-4 engine and according to Hobbs meter there are 2335 TTOAF. Time on particular engine is unknown we are looking through paperwork and trying to find it.

Until logs are recovered that is assumed to be 100% original gauge and accurate. The paint and surface of the entire plane are 9/10 with only age being the major show on paint in a couple places.

The original coat is in amazing condition almost no dents anywhere on the plane. It’s appears that the right magneto was removed assuming to have rebuilt or replaced ( magneto is still with plane) We pulled several of the spark plugs to look at them and borescope the cylinders.

Upon inspection the cylinders looked to be in great shape with oil residue present no rust no visual scarring or damage internally. The oil in the plane was clean if ran at all minimally used and appeared new. I didn’t rotate engine from the fact time sitting is unknown and the magneto was removed and didn’t want to disturb timing or rotate until cylinders were properly lubricated with mineral oil to ensure no damage occurs.

Based on the professional opinion of the IA with minimal work this plane would likely qualify for a ferry flight.

The plan originally was to keep this plane repair it and learn to fly this plane while obtaining my ppl and the military heritage spoke to me being a veteran but after a very long and sad discussion it’s just doesn’t seem like this is a good investment of time and money for me as a training pilot.

I spent over 3 hours combing over this plane have over 100 photos and I am still in process of gathering facts and documentation regarding this plane and finding the logbooks will take sometime as the estate is evaluated and paperwork is gone through.

Call or Text me 512-677-9195 I can send more photos and answer any questions you may have

I have clear and unabated ownership to this plane and have applied for it with the FAA.

This auction is being run and plane purchased assuming logbooks can’t be found and the plane will need a thorough 100 hour annual inspection to prove that all AD’s have been taken care of and brought up to standards to be able to be flown again. This plane is in amazing shape.

Short list of items likely needed before plane if able to be flown.

1,5,6,7 then plane can be fired off with fresh fuel and will more than likely run.

  1. Battery
  2. Transponder
  3. Landing gear serviced or rebuilt
  4. Seal on the propeller is leaking oil.
  5. Right Magneto possibly rebuilt or replaced
  6. Clean spark plugs
  7. Lubricate Cylinders with mineral oil
  8. Radio.

I will not Cancel bids or remove them make an informed decision prior to clicking bid or buy. I have done my best to inform the potential buyer of what is for sale.

I am not an expert mechanic I didn’t pay for the opinion of the IA it was done as a courtesy and they will be happy to work on this plane there if you so choose.

The hangar can be assumed with a new lease and is monthly at $220 plus deposit. The plane is located in Grand Prairie Texas.

I am saying this again because I feel it needs to be said several times to avoid ignorance and tire kickers. Don’t bid if you don’t know and don’t buy unless you intend to follow through.

Deposit is NON REFUNDABLE. ASK BEFORE YOU BID. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING.
