Complete Project Airplane - No Damage History

Current Price: 16,200.00 USD

****UPDATE 12/18/2018****
I have had numerous people ask for more information and for logs on this aircraft.  All of this information can be found at this link:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yw2asAP7__wZ1ObLxWJ2cLzAm1H2ZGld

This link has the FAA background information as well as the logbooks.  The airframe logbook does go back farther, but I didn't get images of the logbooks from before 1981.

Regarding corrosion, some items on the aircraft have no corrosion, such as the spar, and other items definitely should be sanded and repainted/reconditioned such as push-pull tubes (my A&P says they are in good enough condition to be reconditioned).  To my knowledge, the aircraft sat in a hangar since 1990, but the hangar is in the Bay Area in California.  There is an entry in the logs (that I forgot to get a picture of while in California...the logbooks were left with the aircraft) that shows that the airframe was sprayed with a corrosion inhibitor between 1979-1981.

Regarding hangar space, I had to move the airplane out of the hangar as part of the purchase agreement with the previous owner.  I had a local A&P prepare the aircraft to sit on the ramp including taping seals, etc.  So as of 12/17/2018, the aircraft is sitting on the ramp at KHWD.  Ramp space is $60/mo, and I have covered this through January 15th.

He asked if I would like for him to leave the valve train off of the aircraft or to reassemble it, and bag and tag everything for the next owner (should it sell).  I told him to leave it off for the next buyer to be able to easily inspect, so the valve train is off of the engine right now, but can be placed back on in two hours or so.

For any additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

****END UPDATE 12/18/2018****

This aircraft is a project, sold as-is, where-is, in Hayward, California, that I purchased recently in hopes of being able to ferry it home before the end of 2018.  After purchasing it, I realized that it is going to take a bit more work than I was ready for (particularly on the engine) to get it ready to ferry, and I would rather not go through disassembly for road transport.  It is a wonderful project to get to fly again or parts bird, but unfortunately, it is based in Hayward, CA, and I am in Austin, TX, and I am not able to find the time get to work on it there.  A few years ago, one of the previous owners' (single owner) friends began the process of stripping the paint on the airplane, and they primed (it appears with rattle-can primer) the fuselage before the city stopped them from painting in the hangar, which is why the airplane is currently grey.

I traveled to Hayward to check out the general condition of the aircraft, and everything seemed to be in good shape.  It was still taped for the paint job.  I removed the tape, as I was planning on ferrying the plane back to Texas.

Avionics & Electrical:
  • I tested the electrical system with a new battery (not included in the sale...the aircraft will need a battery), and most of the electronics fired up nicely.  The audio panel communicated over the speaker nicely, the KY197A radio display was clear and broadcast ATIS with no problem.  I wasn't able to get the KNS 80 navigation systemto turn on at all, I didn't have any method to test the transponder, and the KX170B analog radio is no good (won't change frequencies, numbers all jumbled).  I was unable to test the Century 41 autopilot.
  • I was not able to determine if every annunciator was properly lit, as the gear circuit breaker was pulled, and I didn't want to put it back in without the aircraft being on jacks.  There were a number of items that were disconnected, although they were there, such as the emergency gear release.  The flaps extended and retracted smoothly, but the flap indicator didn't seem to move.  I have been told this is a simple device to fix.
  • I didn't get a chance to put the aircraft on jacks to see if the gear retracted, unfortunately.
  • The nav/strobes work properly, although I was not able to turn on the landing/taxi lights, as the cowling had been removed (I just didn't hook it up, although it did look like one of the bulbs would need to be replaced).

Airframe:
  • Roughly 2000 hours Total Time
  • The wing spar shows to be in great shape, and is primed.  The wing shows normal signs of age, but nothing unusual.
  • The push-pull rods show surface corrosion, but they are able to be removed, refinished, and placed back in service.
  • The interior is in nice shape.  It is older, but it is in relatively good condition.  6 or 7 / 10
  • There is a 4 place sky-ox oxygen system installed, but the bottle has been removed, and the lines show signs of being left open to moist air.  The lines and bottle will need replacing.
  • There is one belly skin that covers the gear actuator that I was told was removed during the paint prep process that I was unable to locate.
  • The tires looked brand new in tread, but because of sitting so long, they had cracks in the sidewall.  They should definitely be replaced if you decide this is a project to fix up.
  • The airframe shows no signs of any sort of damage, short of a very small dent on the leading edge near the right wingtip

Firewall Forward:
  • Continental TSIO-360-GB roughly 800 hours SMOH
  • The previous owner had removed the intake manifold and exhaust manifold, as they knew that I wanted my A&P to take a look at the engine.
  • Cylinders are corroded - will need replacement new or overhauled cylinders
  • Camshaft shows some unusual wear patterns, but the engine shop doesn't see any issues with it
  • The lifters show the beginning signs of pitting
  • Prop/Hub is corroded - will need a new prop/hub
  • Fuel system will need overhaul (Fuel Pump & Fuel Controller)
  • Fuel lines and oil hoses will require replacement
  • Mags need to be overhauled
  • Exhaust will require rebuild/replacement
  • Turbocharger would need to be bench tested (turbine spins freely)
  • Vaccuum pump replacement (maybe change vaccuum instruments out with Garmin G5 instruments to avoid this)
  • Motor mount should be cleaned up and refinished

Please only bid if you are serious about buying and understand that you will either need to invest the time and money to get the aircraft to ferry, or disassemble it for road transport.

Thank you, and Happy Bidding!!!
